Golden Two Four MTB XC Marathon Race 2019 @ Golden BC
Saturday June 15th, I finished 42nd place out of 60 in the solo open men category Results, It took me 6 hours & 9 minutes to complete 3 laps and I went a total of 45 Kms. Lap 1 = 1 hour 57 mins, Lap 2 = 2 hours 4 mins, Lap 3 = 2 hours 7 mins. Total elevation gain was 4,659 Feet. My average heart rate was 163 bpm and max was 193 bpm. Check out my garmin data Here.
I entered the 8 hours category to complete as many laps. The start was lemans style where we had to run around the school field for almost a kilometre and then find our bikes before hopping on and riding the race. I did not like this style of start. Once on the bike I had a really strong start because I moved up a lot of spots and was climbing very consistent and with the ability to push as hard as I could. At the ten kilometre mark of the first lap I was trying really hard on a climb to make it over a rock with a sharp left corner to follow and I did not quite have enough speed and lost my balance where I tipped over and landed hard on a tree stub and bumped my head on a rock. I took about ten minutes to collect myself, get my chain back on, make sure that I was ok to carry on. I road the next five km's very cautiously to finish lap one safe. I checked in at the medical tent and made sure I had no concussion (thankfully not) they cleaned up the cuts on my leg, elbow & bum where the bib shorts ripped. I was allowed to continue and managed to get in two more laps. I really enjoyed the course because it had a really big six km long climb with a really fun decent that was just as long. The only part I did not like was the black rated two km rock a bout section where there were lots of rocks and if you wipe out its a long fall down rocks. I ran this section every time. The temperature was 27 deg C.
A huge thanks to Transrockies for putting on the race and to all the volunteers for their efforts to put on this amazing event and especially the medics that took care of me.
