2012 Mountain bike XC & Mountain bike XC Marathon Racing Season Recap

Western National Marathon Series MTB XC results out of one race:

1. Provincials @ Hinton AB, Aug 26th, = 18th out of 25 in open men (18 points)

I was in the 86th spot out of 248 racers that completed one race.

Alberta and Saskatchewan Cup series MTB XC results out of five races:

  1. Coulee Cruiser @ Lethbridge AB, May 13th = 5th out of 6 in Novice (8 points)
  2. Blackstrap Biter @ Blackstrap Lake SK, June 24th = 9th out of 21 in Sport (105 points)
  3. Perogy @ Edmonton AB, July 8th = 19th out of 25 in Sport
  4. Africa Bike @ Canmore AB, Aug 18th = 9th out of 9 in Sport
  5. Provincials @ Hinton AB, Aug 25th = 12th out of 15 in Master A (2 points)

I finished with 8 Alberta Mountain bike cup points in Novice and 2 Alberta Mountain bike cup points in Sport. I was ranked 26th in Novice Men and 41st in Sport Men. I do not get awarded points for the Saskatchewan cup series because I am out of province and I was out of the top eight for a cross over to AB Cup points. (ABA would have to review either way)

This was my third season of racing. It started out with me joining United Cycle Racing team because River Valley Cycle closed the doors before the new year, and that was hard to see. It was an easy decision to join the new team and most of all one person Stew H and I have raced against each other the past two seasons in Novice and had some great battles on the race course, but off the course I developed a good friend ship with him and saw that he was a great person and I wanted to be around that kind of person for racing. I had joined the Lori-Ann Muenzer (2004 Olympic Gold medalist in track cycling and from Edmonton) spin classes for two months and there with me doing them was Stew H. It proved to be a great training advantage for me.

I had a really bad crash the first race of the season in Lethbridge AB when I flipped over the handle bars and landed on my left shoulder, a trip to the Hospital resulted in me being lucky as it was damage to the tendons and nothing was broken. My shoulder was never 100% all season after the crash but it was good enough to race so I was so happy for that. I was 14 points short of upgrading to Sport Men, so I asked Alberta Bicycle Association to be upgraded and I was granted this request as my lap times were of the next level. I was happy with this because when I do all that driving out of town I get an extra lap. I did two Fat Tire Tuesday MTB XC races and did not fair to well in them. I did one Spring Series Road Race and did not do to well. I had my best races in Saskatchewan and Hinton. I volunteered for two Tuesday night Cyclo Cross races and the ABA Lions Den race in Devon all were put on by my club United Cycle . I went a total of 1,358 km's training and racing on the road and trails.
